Automatic image analysis system for physical characterization of atmospheric particles is an analytical instrument which performs quantitative stereological measurements. The system performs various processing, analytical and statistical functions on images obtained from a CCD camera connected to a microscope, or recalled from disc memory.

It consists of three principal hardware elements:
computer with Snappy Video Snapshot,
Leitz (Laborlux S) transmitted light microscope and
CCD camera (JVC KY – 1900 E).

Transmitted light microscope is fitted with a brightfield vertical illuminator, standard objective lenses 4x, 10x, 25x and 40x.

OZARIA 2.5® software offers 3 basic steps in image analysis:
image acquisition,
editing, enhancement and preprocessing and
measurements and statistical calculation.
